About Us

FoundationThe Islamic Foundation aims to promote a better understanding of Islam-both by muslims and non-Muslims, to foster better relations between Muslims and others, and to contribute towards a brighter tomorrow, not just for Muslims but for the Humanity at large. These broad objectives are pursued through the activities of its various sections, deparments, units and projects.

We aim, within the guidance of revealed wisdom, to be an active force in the shaping of humanity. The Islamic Foundation works towards achieving this aim by building bridges between Muslims and others, and promoting the highest standards of academic research and publications related to Islam.


History

  • 1973 - Established in a small 2 room office at Highfields 3-7 Keythorpe Street, Leicester;
  • 1976 - Moved to a larger 20 room listed building at 223 London Road, Leicester due to expansion and growth in its work;
  • 1990 - Activities continued to expand, as a result moved to an even larger premises of the present, beautiful rural    site at Ratby Lane, Markfield, Leicestershire;
  • 2000 - Culmination of Foundation's vision of securing an Islamic presence in British academia, the Markfield    Institute of Higher Education (MIHE) was established;
  • 2003 - The first academic block was built and inaugurated by HRH the Prince of Wales on 24th January 2003.

Major Departments

  • Research into the Islamic sources of Revealed Knowledge - the Qur'an and Sunnah;
  • Interfaith, focuses mostly on the interaction and relationship between Islam and other faiths;
  • Islam in Europe, engaged in collecting, classifying and analysing materials on Muslims in Europe;
  • Islamic economics, aiming to identify and reflect upon th problems and issues concerned in implementation of the Islamic economics system in the modern age;
  • The educational needs of Muslims in the west;
  • Education and training for new muslims;
  • Cultrual awareness training for non-muslims working with Muslims;
  • New Muslim Unit, focuses on the needs of those who have embraced Islam in recent years;
  • Publications Unit, producing over 300 books and several journals, Magazines, Newsletters all of which are produced within the Islamic Foundation for Muslims and non-Muslims
