19th February, Hanau Attack
The Islamic Foundation is horrified by the cruel and senseless attack late Wednesday evening which targeted a specific minority group in Hanau, Germany. This deliberate attack, which has come just days after 12 people were arrested in Germany for plotting large-scale attacks on mosques uncovers the deep-rooted Islamophobia of the right-wing extremists.
We express our deepest condolences to all those affected and assure the Muslim community in Hanau of our solidarity. We pray that Allah (swt) accept the deceased as martyrs and give patience and strength to the family members and the community.
We stand together with Hanau Mayor Claus Kaminsky who said it had been the "hardest day in our history”, adding “the city had seen centuries of peaceful coexistence between different faiths and cultures - "That is why it is so hard to understand".
These violent and senseless acts are opposed to our common faith and human values. We must not allow them to divide us and stand together against all forms of Islamophobia and extremism.
