Strategy and Policy for Social Change: Weekend Residential Retreat

  • Markfield Conference Centre, Ratby Lane, Leicestershire LE67 9SY
  • 9th to 11th October 2026

The Islamic Foundation and The Future Institute are jointly organising a weekend residential retreat for young Muslims students, new graduates and early-career professionals to develop strategic thinking, policy literacy, and leadership capacity to make positive changes for the Muslim community and wider society.

About the Retreat

There is currently limited structured space for young Muslims to develop serious capacity in strategic thinking, policy literacy, and understanding how change happens. Grounded in both contemporary analysis and the Islamic intellectual tradition, this retreat is designed to help address that gap.

Over an immersive weekend, a small cohort of motivated students, graduates and early-career professionals will come together to build the knowledge, confidence and network needed to contribute meaningfully to public life and social change.

What You'll Cover

✅ Strategic Thinking: Understanding how change really happens, and how to think several steps ahead

✅ Policy Analysis: The frameworks and tools behind effective policy work

✅ Lobbying and Advocacy: How influence is built and exercised, in practice

✅ Understanding the British Muslim Context: History, present realities, and trajectory

The weekend will combine keynote sessions, guest speakers (TBA), group exercises and workshops, all set within a residential environment designed to build genuine connection between participants.

Who It's For

We're looking for motivated students, graduates and early-career professionals who are already showing potential towards contributing to the Muslim community and wider society. Spaces are limited, early registration is strongly encouraged.

Cost

The participation fee is £75, covering accommodation, meals and study materials. This is a subsidised cost made possible with the support of the Islamic Foundation. Registering your interest does not commit you to payment at this stage.

How to Register

Spaces are limited. Please register your interest by 31 August.

Registering your interest does not guarantee a place; given limited capacity, we will be in touch to confirm places shortly after the deadline.

Please do share this with anyone in your networks who might benefit.
