Surely we belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return!

With profound sorrow and a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Professor Khurshid Ahmad — esteemed founding chairman of The Islamic Foundation, a distinguished Pakistani statesman, and a lifelong trustee and guiding force behind numerous pioneering intellectual and philanthropic institutions around the world.

Professor Khurshid Ahmad was a towering intellectual, a visionary Islamic economist, and a principled thought leader whose influence extended across continents. A pioneer in modern Islamic economics and interfaith dialogue, he had a profound impact on Islamic intellectual thought in the 20th and 21st centuries. His commitment to policy development and education was deeply rooted in Islamic values, and his scholarship and public service shaped generations of minds across the Muslim world and beyond.

Through his founding role at The Islamic Foundation, he nurtured people and institutions that continue to inspire critical thinking and bridge-building among communities, nations, and faiths. His passing is an immense loss not only to the institutions he helped build but to the global academic, spiritual, and intellectual community.

May Allah Almighty accept his lifelong service to the Ummah, elevate his ranks in Jannah, and grant his family and loved ones strength and sabr during this difficult time.

Please remember him in your prayers.

Farooq Murad,

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Professor Khurshid Saheb. His loss has left an irreplaceable void. He was a close friend of my mentor, Hashir Faruqi Saheb, the editor of Impact International. I had the privilege of meeting him on several occasions at the Impact office and at Faruqi Saheb’s residence. Each time, he welcomed me with warmth, humility, and genuine kindness. May Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his contributions, and grant him a place among the highest ranks in al-‘Illiyyīn.

A scholar, Murrabi, Daiya – “Think globally and work locally – have a Ummah central approach” – some of the words of Prof Khurshid. I have had the pleasure of working and personally benefitting from his knowledge. – one of the greatest personalities of this Ummah and a key figure in the Islamic movement for past 70+ years. Last one of the generations of those who stood by Sayyid Mawdudi and enhanced the work of Islamic movement in its early stages both on national and International level. Recognised ofr his achievements both nationally and internationally. Prof Khurshid had in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Quran and could contextualise it, he learnt Usul al Fiqh in Prison and mastered key Islamic Science as well as being an authority on Islamic Economics. Prof Khurshid leaves a void in Islamic scholarships that may never be filled - very few Islamic thinkers move from activism to academia as he did. He was calm collected individual who thought deeply and cared for the wellbeing of the Muslim Ummah. May Allah grant him the highest station in Jannah and rank him amongst the scholars, Shuhada and Saliheen.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (Indeed we are for Allah, and to him is our return) Professor Khurshid Ahmad's passing is a profound loss to the global Muslim community. His pioneering work in Islamic economics and his unwavering commitment to raising the consciousness of Muslims—emphasizing Islam as a complete way of life encompassing the social, economic, and political spheres—have left an indelible mark on generations. I recall reading his books in my youth; they opened my mind to a broader Islamic vision and inspired a deeper sense of responsibility and purpose. May Allah (SWT) accept his tireless efforts, grant him the highest place in Jannah al-Firdaws, and provide comfort and patience to his family and all who mourn this great loss. Assalam o Alaikum. إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ Surely, we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. May Allah (SWT) grant Professor Khurshid Ahmad the highest place in Jannah, Al-Firdaus. Ameen. His contributions and lifelong service to Islam were truly remarkable. From his youth, he dedicated himself to the cause of Islam - first as an active member, and later as the President of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba, Pakistan. He exemplified the life of a committed Muslim, remaining steadfast in his faith and service from his early years until his passing. Professor Khurshid Ahmad was a towering intellectual, a pioneering Islamic economist, and a visionary thought leader whose influence spanned continents. While many nations benefited from his profound scholarship and unwavering commitment to Islamic values, Pakistan could have drawn even greater benefit from his wisdom and depth - had political differences not stood in the way. As a former member of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba, I feel truly grateful to have had the opportunity to read Professor Khurshid Ahmad’s works and benefit from his profound insights, speeches, and scholarly contributions. I often wish our Muslim world had more individuals like him - committed, visionary, and deeply grounded in Islamic values. Despite his towering intellect and influential presence, he remained remarkably humble and kind. His humility and sincerity, especially in the realm of politics and leadership, are rare qualities in today’s world.

Asalam o Alikum. Few years back, I was reading Tarjuman ul Quran and my mother saw me and said,” whenever i receive this. The first thing I do is checking the name of Khursheed sahab and pray for him.” Then she told me about him. From that moment, I decided if I ever be able to visit UK, I-will definitely meet him. Day before yesterday when we came back from Palestine Solidarity walk, my mother said,” next month we will not see Prof Khursheed name in Tarjuman ul Quran.” I was unable to fulfil my wish but InshaAllah, we will be united on the day of judgment under the blessings of Allah the all mighty.
