Response to recent acts of violence

The Islamic Foundation is saddened by recent acts of violence worldwide.

It is extremely saddening to see the various acts of violence and extremism we have recently witnessed. Whether the victims of these acts have been Muslims, as in the case of Chapel Hill in America, or members of other religious or cultural backgrounds, as in the case of the synagogue and free speech event in Copenhagen, we condemn such atrocities wholeheartedly.

Both Western social values and Islamic principles are grounded in peaceful living and good manners, treating others as you would wish to be treated and respecting each other’s way of life. What we have seen in these recent displays of violence, hate and intolerance is an affront to these shared morals and we must, as a united community, condemn them unequivocally and stand as one in the effort to eradicate such actions and attitudes from society.

The Islamic Foundation would like to remind all our friends of the lofty teachings of Islam, those of patience, fortitude, peacefulness and solidarity which we must always uphold, especially in these challenging times.

The tragic events have been a cause of great concern for all communities and have led to deeper reflection on issues around cohesion, understanding, faith and security. In the wake of such saddening news we can only hope that our various communities continue to join hands in the path towards the eradication of extremism in all its forms and maintaining a safe and unified society.
