Mohamed Shahid Mathee is a senior lecturer in the Department of Religion Studies at the University of Johannesburg. He studied in the Kuliyyah Shari’ah wa al-Qanun, Al-Azhar, Egypt. He obtained a Masters of Social Science from the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Cape Town followed by a PhD in Historical Studies from the same university. His current research focuses on marriage, divorce and paternity-dispute fatwas from the colonial era as a source for social history and Timbuktu’s twentieth-century chronicles.
A charity established in UK in 1973, dedicated to research, publishing, education, community support and inter-faith dialogue. Set amidst almost 10 Acres in Markfield, it provides a tranquil environment for studying. The site houses a Masjid, an extensive library, a residential conference centre and a bookshop.
